Current research

Research for her PhD project ‘More mobility for whom? Regional policy and the shaping of sustainable futures in Central Germany’.

Previous positions and research

Julia studied ethnology at the University of Leipzig from 2012-2019. During her bachelor’s, she put her regional focus on Sub-Saharan Africa and spent a semester at the University in Stellenbosch, South Africa. In her Master’s, she was then part of a research group at the Max Planck Institute for Ethnological Research, where she studied the situation and experiences of Somali refugees in Germany. She graduated with a thesis on intersectional perspectives of belonging in a Somali association in Frankfurt a.M., Germany.
