We want to discuss notions and paradigms of “extractivism” in this session. To prepare for the session, we want to read Sandro Mezzadra’s and Brett Neilson’s article “On the multiple frontiers of extraction: excavating contemporary capitalism”, which juxtaposes conceptual notions of extractivism to describe contemporary capitalisms and the descriptive character of sheer materiality the concept invokes.
